Oergrond - Organisch
During my graduation work at Fotoschool Statief, I chose the theme "Primordial Ground" as the guiding principle for my photographic studies. This series of abstract images is inspired by the philosophy of Meister Eckhart, who speaks of a primordial ground or primordial substance as the birthplace of everything. This concept resonates deeply with my own vision and approach to photography.
Oergrond - Studie in Roest
These organic images in “Oergrond” are, at their core, so elemental that they give the viewer ample space to evoke personal associations with things they have seen or experienced before. This closely aligns with the aesthetics of wabi-sabi, which appreciates the beauty of impermanence and imperfection, and with contemplative photography, which focuses on being fully present in the moment and valuing the simple, often overlooked details of life.
The essence of my perception
By integrating these philosophies into my work, the essence of my way of seeing has become clearly visible for the first time. My photographs invite the viewer to look beyond surface appearances and discover the deeper layers of meaning that lie beneath. Just as Meister Eckhart’s idea of the “primordial ground” represents the source of all existence, my images serve as a visual metaphor for the fundamental beauty and meaning that can be found in the everyday.
This graduation project has not only sharpened my technical skills but also enhanced my ability to see and capture the world around me on a deeper level. It has helped me find my own voice as a photographer and invites the viewer to take part in a contemplative experience that is both personal and universal.
